CELEBRATE THE LAUNCH OF “GIGI”
MARIE LAFFONT HOSTS A HOLIDAY POP-UP AT MARLO LAZ FINE JEWELRY TO CELEBRATE THE LAUNCH OF “GIGI
Shoe Designer Marie Laffont will host a holiday pop-up and cocktail party for her eponymous brand at the Marlo Laz Fine Jewelry boutique on Bleecker Street in New York City in celebration of the launch of “GIGI.” The unique new style will be the first heel to debut from the luxury shoe, and holds a special place in the designers heart as it is named in remembrance of her late mother who passed away from breast cancer earlier this year. Therefore,a portion of proceeds from retail sales will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in her memory.
The GIGI collection will consist of a single limited-edition style respecting the brand's sustainable ethos. Only one prototype model was produced and only 50 shoes will be for sale. As with all Marie Laffont shoes, GIGI will also be made by hand in Italy by artisanal craftsmen using the finest materials. GIGI will come in a soft black nappa leather, and although it signifies a return to heels and elevated dressing post-pandemic, it retains the comfort and wearability we have become accustomed to. A versatile style, GIGI can be worn with socks and jeans in the winter or with a little black dress in the summer.
“GIGI” was the nickname of Marie Laffont’s mother amongst close friends and family. Although, according to her mentor Christian Louboutin, naming a design after someone you know is considered taboo or bad luck, Laffont has decided to take the risk and named the style as an homage to her mother. At the back of the shoes, Marie’s Mother’s favorite symbol will appear: The cross of Camargue. It is a symbol for the French region of Camargue created by the painter Hermann-Paul in 1926 to represent the "Camargue nation" of herdsmen and fishermen. It embodies three theological virtues: Faith (represented by the tridents of guardians on the Christian cross), Hope (represented by the anchor of sinners), and Charity (represented by the heart of The Three Mary’s).
From this point on, Marie Laffont will donate 10% of all retail sales on marielaffont.com to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation® whose mission is to advance the world’s most promising research to eradicate breast cancer. For more information about BCRF, visit www.bcrf.org.
